Yom Kippur Reflection and Meditation - led by Dr. Shari Becker
Saturday, October 12, 2024 • 10 Tishrei 5785
2:30 PM - 3:30 PMOn Yom Kippur, we are called upon to turn inwards and reflect upon our actions, words, and intentions during the preceding year. We are invited to acknowledge situations in which we have caused pain or misstepped. This process, together with fasting and refraining from daily distractions, is meant to challenge us, to make us feel uncomfortable. We are asked to atone for and ask forgiveness for our actions and words. Sometimes this process can feel overwhelming, as we struggle with feelings of regret, guilt, or shame, resisting the truth that we have done or said things that we wish we hadn’t or acknowledging that we have disappointed or hurt other people. It isn’t easy to say admit that we did something that hurt someone or to say "I’m sorry.” Yom Kippur calls upon us to come out of our comfort zone and do just that.
In this 45 minute reflection and meditation, Shari will offer a guided practice that will touch upon the personal accountability that Yom Kippur requests of us. She will also offer a Self-Compassion practice to help us sit comfortably in the discomfort that arises when we hold ourselves accountable for our words and actions, for the hard work of being human.
